Mice lacking T-cell function

BALB/cAJcl-nu/nu

Origin

These mice were introduced by Dr. C. W. Friis (Denmark) to the Central Institute for Experimental Animals; we subsequently started their mass production and supply.

Characteristics

Because of the control from a single recessive gene nu, homozygotes (nu/nu) are anatomically athymic and are hairless in appearance (histologically, hair follicles are present and some animals have downy hair). From an immunologic perspective, they lack T-cell function. They are permanently backcrossed, and the supply of these animals is genetically and microbiologically consistent.

Use

- Various immunology and cancer studies - Screening of anticancer drugs - Microbiological studies, etc.
